Spring Garden Stroll
ANNOUNCEMENT OF DATES FOR ST. FRANCISVILLE SPRING GARDEN TOUR
St Francisville, Louisiana
The Feliciana Horticultural Society, made up of local area Master Gardeners, annually hosts the St. Francisville Spring Garden Tour fundraiser. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit and enjoy the unique horticultural environment of West Feliciana Parish and the Town of St. Francisville. Located on the cusp of growing zones 8 and 9, the area is home to beautiful and diverse landscapes and plantings.
The 2020 Spring Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 1-5pm featuring a self-guided tour of private gardens in West Feliciana Parish.
All proceeds benefit the local 4-H Scholarship Program and West Feliciana school gardens and other community programs.
The Jaclyn Garza Memorial 4-H Scholarship has given out over $9650 since its inception in 2004. Scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors who are active in 4-H and have enrolled in college.
In recent years, a portion of the proceeds of the Spring Stroll have been donated to Bains Elementary School for the Memory & Butterfly Gardens and to both Bains Elementary and Bains Lower Elementary Schools for vegetable gardens. The vegetable gardens are now being used as outdoor classrooms offering supplemental learning opportunities for the students in math, science and health. Local County Agent, Jessie Hoover, along with local Master Gardeners provide instruction on gardening and teacher support for instruction.
The Feliciana Master Gardeners with support from the West Feliciana AgCenter, have hosted the Spring Tour since 2004. Each year a variety of private gardens are selected and when possible additional public gardens or venues are added.
